Humo y Polvo Company
The company Humo y Polvo, Smoke and Dust in English, was born in
2022, in Brussels, of the meeting between the Chilean Martina Calvo and the Swiss
Morgane Maret. After having shared for three years during the training in the Brussels School of Circus Arts, they decided to join forces and share their ideas to create their first show, "I Dreamt I Had Hairy Teeth." Their shared interest in the visual arts greatly influenced their creative process, and the material took on a unique role on stage. Their unique, strange, and sometimes disturbing worlds often challenge society's preconceived notions about women.
Driven by a carefully crafted visual and sound aesthetic, they seek to immerse the audience in a unique experience. Through circus technique and physical expression, they convey emotions and reflections, inviting everyone to a sensitive and poetic resonance.
The team
Martina Calvo
Born in 1998 in central Chile, she discovered the circus at the age of 16 after several years of artistic gymnastics. She is passionate about acrobatics, hand-to-hand, aerial cradle, and Korean cradle (Flyer).
Alongside her circus practice, Martina earned a degree in Technical Drawing and Human Figures from the University of Chile and continues her exploration of visual arts by creating works using various techniques such as muralism, drawing, and sculpture. Now a graduate of the Brussels School of Circus Arts in 2022, she dedicates her energy and intensity to the service of the stage, allowing her to freely express her ideas.
Morgane Maret
Born in 1996 in a small Swiss town, she encountered the world of circus at the age of 6 and never left. After a high school diploma in Visual Arts where she developed her interest in sculpture, crafts and photography, she left her native country to complete 2 years of training at the National Centre for Circus Arts in London where she specialized in aerial rope. She then went to the École Supérieure des Arts du Cirque in Brussels and completed her training in 2022. Throughout her career, Morgane developed her practice of acro-dance, a discipline that fascinates her and which she combines with her aerial technique. She is particularly interested in art forms that intertwine, passionately exploring their interactions and reciprocal influences.
